Cooking with Tofu is not difficult. Here are few little tricks you can use in order to get the best out of tofu:
Tofu is available in a variety of textures. Our firm Tofu block keeps it shape well and is best for slicing, dicing and frying. It can be frozen then thawed, which gives it a more chewy texture. It is ideal stir-fried with vegetables or added to casseroles, chilli, soups, curries, lasagne, tacos, wraps, or use crumbled in a spaghetti sauce. If you cut it into cubes you can use it as a kebab on a barbecue. You can also substitute Firm Tofu for ricotta, cottage, or cream cheese. Softer Tofus can be used to make creamy dressings, such as mayonnaise. It is also a good substitute for eggs, milk, sour cream, and heavy cream. It works well in many dessert recipes, such as cheesecake, pies, and pudding as a replacement for milk, cheese, cream, or eggs.
Its easy using this "super food," so why not try our easy peasy, Sweet and Sour Tofu Recipe to see how great cooking with Tofu is.
Store the unused portion of Tofu in water inside an airtight container. It is recommended that the water be changed daily. Unused Tofu must be refrigerated. Freezing Tofu is an option, but be advised that the texture of Tofu will change and become spongy. Also, frozen Tofu can absorb marinades or other liquids more quickly. To use frozen Tofu, simply let it defrost and squeeze out any excess liquid.
